Namsan Tower and the Han River

Namsan Tower (Seoul Tower) is Seoul's most prominent landmark as it stands in the centre of Seoul. On a clear day you can see the whole of Seoul from up here. You can go up by cable car or walk. We took the cable car as we were pressed for time and didn’t know how long the walking route would take. Next time I’ll do the hike up as it’s an easy short hike to the top. To see the city lights of Seoul will also be a beautiful sight at night. Many couples come up here to declare their love by adding a lock to the thousands of locks already locked up here. The sheer size of Seoul is endless and it’s a sight to look out over the second most densely populated metropolitan in the world (Second to Tokyo).

The Han River cuts through the center of Seoul and there are lots of river cruises available here. Seoul lacks breathtaking architecture and there’s not that much to see during the river cruise. It’s a nice trip to see the size of Seoul, but there’s not much to see other than a few skyscrapers, Seoul Tower and numbered apartment blocks. There are several bridges crossing the Han and seeing a city on the move from the comfort of a slow boat is pleasant. You can take a round or one-way trip that will drop you off at the other side of the city. With the wind in your hair this mode of transport is cool if you have the time and money to see Seoul and get from west to east or vice versa. We were bombarded by students wanting to know: “Where are you from?”, “How old are you?”, “What’s your name?” and “Do you like Korea?” A few photo posses later and we were on the other side.
