Surf The South
Southern Bali is renowned for its famous surf spots. We decided to go and have a look at the surf as many of the spots were not too far away.
Bali has a variety of accommodation options available ranging from high priced hotels to home stays. Home stays are the ideal option for the budget traveler. Home stays are where Indonesian families rent out an outdoor room to travelers for a reasonable price, often including breakfast to.
We made use of this accommodation option as it was well priced, often had a good location, no reservations required and don’t forget the breakfast. It was the perfect option for us as we did not spend much time at the home stay and only needed a place to leave our bags and crash the night.
In Southern Bali we stayed at yet another home stay. This one did not have a rat doing its rounds as in Ubud and Padangbai. The home stay was a stone throw away from the famous Padang-Padang surf spot. Watching the perfect waves break in this beautiful surrounding made me want to be a surfer for one day.
The best way to explore Southern Bali is on a scooter. We rented a scooter for only $5 for the day and explored more of the coast.
Uluwatu is another famous surf spot that attracts thousands of surfers per year. This spot is fascinating as it’s situated next to cliffs and one can easily overlook the surf and see the sets as they roll in. The swell was not that big and was expected to pick up the next day. We witnessed some great surfing even though it was over crowded on the day we visited.
Right on the Southern Tip of Bali is the Uluwatu temple with grand views of the cliffs and greedy monkeys robbing tourists of their caps and sunglasses. A beautiful temple built at the edge of the cliff and a reason to visit the south other than for its epic surf and gorgeous beaches.
