This may be the last painting I blog for a few weeks. CalArts has been a lot of work this summer so I haven't had much time to paint. I finished this a few weeks ago. I'm quite happy how this turned out but it was a real struggle making it work. I really strive for a painting to be abstract but at the same time totally recognizable.
Detail #1. I finished the entire painting but was only happy with this part, so it's what I kept and completely changed the rest. Green and purple are a very strange color combination but I wanted to try to make them work because I really liked the part above.
Detail #2. Hopefully you can see how abstract this painting is from some of these details. Although ultimately I shoot for everything to make sense, as if I was actually painting on location, I want every paint stroke, every splotch of color, etc. to be completely abstract.
Detail #3. More stuff.
Detail #4. It's easier to see how abstract this is when looking at a small piece of the painting.

New Home for the Flower Birds
I thought I'd have a go at a specific design for a card, rather than just putting my existing designs on cards. I might play around with the colour of it - but for now this is how it looks.
It's only small, measuring just under 7 x 5 inches.
And here it is after playing with it in photoshop
Sugar & Meringue
I missed it! I have been so busy with School these past few weeks, somehow in my GoogleReader, I missed this post from Sugar & Meringue! Her annual "National Sugar Cookie Day" publication. Last year's was adorably presented, as was this year's.
It is full of sweet recipes, how-to images and ideas. She has also posted an adorable tutorial on how to make "granny-square" decorated cookies. And, since making granny-squares for a blanket is on my to-do list this Summer, I am smitten with this idea. Enjoy!

When MY Book Comes Out, We'll Have To Hold 'Em Back!!!
Well folks, this is my latest chocolate bouquet! What do you think? I really would appreciate your input!
And secondly, maybe you can tell me how you feel about this as well~I'm going to get on the ball and make a book! A chocolate bouquet book!
Leave me a comment and tell me what you think!
My hubby has been encouraging me to do so for some time now, and to be honest, the biggest obstacles I face are:
1. I'm only HALF computer literate! That means, I have no idea how to go about uploading my book to the internet!
2. The ideas I come up with are straight from....MY BRAIN! Since you all know that I have Blon roots, you TOTALLY understand what the problem is there! Us Blons have to work twice as hard to make sense of things, which means it is going to be A LOT OF WORK!!!!!
But I guess that ALSO means that everyone already knows what a challenge this will be for me, so they'll be lining up at the library computers, office computers and their friends' home computers to get my book!
And that brings me to the third obstacle, which won't really be a problem for me at all! It will be a problem for everyone else!!!!!
How are y'all gonna keep everyone is a straight, single file line, with no cutting?
Here's an idea!
Put up barricades!
Or stanchions!
Or, if you want to keep them in line in a first class manner, how about velvet ropes?
Any will work, I'm sure!
So anyway! Please leave me a comment-what would you think of how-to book on chocolate bouquets?
And one last question, which I'd appreciate your input on:
Thanks everyone! And don't forget to leave a comment! =)

White & Wander
Just wanted to give you all the heads up {if you don't already know} that the extremely talented and creative Emma Clements from White and Wander and her mum have launched their amazing online store. It is filled to the brim with antlers and globes and all sorts of amazing collected things. I really think their store fills a void in the market {here in Australia} for stylish vintage treasures and in their own words "it is a discovery of time worn treasures and imperfect luxuries."
Click HERE to start fossicking through their wonderful collection...
TINY grasshopper (grey, tan, camo colored)
Soooo tiny, like the size of my pinky finger nail. anddd, it looks like little tiny wings on its back, but it's just two tan dots that are part of the pattern.
I like to think of them as evolving dragon wings.
Loooooook at his amazing old man, stone henge, pouty, big nosed face!!!! it's like something you see in a nursing home.
A face i love!

A True Story About Little Loves
This is a story about two precious babies!
Since we moved from our old property, there was an outdoor cat living at our old land, and she had these precious babies. I'm happy with my own two babies, Chloe and Diamond, and am not looking for any new kitties.
BUT!
I was feeding the mama cat regularly, and she never revealed her babies to us, but we could tell she was a mama. And she was a WONDERFUL little cat! So sweet and friendly!
Usually when I would go out to the land to feed her, she would greet me. But one day, she didn't come.
Dan was at the land another day, a few days later, and again, she didn't come.
About a week and a half later, we still did not see her at all.
A friend of mine was moving to our land, and while we were there preparing the place for her, Dan spotted a fluffly baby kitty! The kitty ran upon the sight of him, but shortly after, she and her brother were both in the front yard.
We caught them, and because we were most likely the first humans they had ever seen, they were terrified, hissing and spitting. The black kitty was calmer, but she was still afraid of any sudden movements.
Since Dakota was with his dad, and I had to leave, Kota took them in the trailer on the land and made friends with them, along with feeding them.
These precious babies had a wonderful mother, but she completely disappeared, and they were too young to fend for themselves, for safety, or for food.
So naturally, I brought them into the safety and care of my own home! They were malnourished, with us being able to feel their bones so easily because they most likely were starving, which would have resulted in their soon coming death.
My little story has a happy ending. These babies filled out nicely, and they are happy and rambunxious, the way kitties should be. They didn't have that much life in them when I brought them home due to being malnourished, I'm sure. But now, they play, have become tolerable to our own cats (Diamond likes the striped boy pretty well, and he loves on her as if she is his new mommy-she even cleans him with her tongue.) =) The black kitty is happy as well, but just doesn't show the need to be mothered like the striped baby.
If you know me personally, and know of anyone who would like these precious babies, please let me know! We won't be able to keep them, but will continue to love them and care for them until they find a new residence, which I would like to be indoors (going outside is fine, but I don't want them to go to someone who doesn't want them inside at all).
Have a great weekend all! Hope this story warmed your heart a little bit!
Last Day of School
School's out for Summer! And I can't wait! Hold on to your hats and socks and shoes and anything else, because Summer Break HERE WE COME.....

The Make Lounge papercutting workshop (Tuesday 19th July)
Here are some photos from Tuesday's workshop. Another really great group. Most people tried their own original papercuts - with some really good results too! Hope they're all proud of themselves.
Sophie and Sofia cut beautiful versions of my templates - not easy choices but they cut them really well.
Rebecca (bottom right), after much trial and tribulation with the drawing bit, created a beautiful picture of her new cottage. I think it's perfect.
Jenni (bottom left) is making a gorgeous picture of three owls on a branch. I hope she sends me a picture of the finished piece - it's going to be amazing.
Clare (top left) created a multi-layered piece using one of my templates and some of her own images.
Ashley (top right and bottom left) created two personalised pieces to give as wedding gifts. Really beautiful.
Michelle (top row) started by cutting one of my templates and then very swiftly moved on to creating a gorgeous piece as a present for her friends. A natural papercutter!
Lucy (middle left) was inspired to come to the class by the promotional image on The Make Lounge website. So she cut her own version. I love the colour scheme she's chosen.
Hannah (middle right) cut one of my templates in gorgeous shades of pink. It looks so different to my usual black version, but I love it.
Mims (bottom row) cut a delicate butterfly. She did a really great job and surprised herself with her result!
Christmas in July
I know, I have written about this before on my blog, but in the States, it is a big thing to have "Christmas in July" sales and events. This is not the case in England, where people look at you, as if you are half mad to even mention such a thing. As school is shortly coming to a close for us (tomorrow is our last day, Yipee!), I thought this would be a good time to use a bit of the Summer break to begin working on a few Christmas/winter-y projects.
One, being my crocheted granny blanket, which I have yet to have the chance to begin, with all the craziness of school going on around us. But, also to possibly start a few Christmas projects early. Here were a few things I came across and I might just try to make some of these, or at the very least be inspired by them, especially the sock monkey coffee cup wrap, he has personality!
Do you begin your Christmas making projects early, or are you a last minute kinda gal (or guy)? Enjoy!
Now is a good time to start collecting vintage cookie cutters at thrift stores and yard sales. These "frames" would be gorgeous to have up all year round!
These mice would make perfect teacher's presents or classroom gifts. If you changed the colors they would even be cute for an Alice in Wonderland Themed Birthday Tea Party.
Want to make your own granny square blanket to stay cozy with when the weather turns frosty, go to Meet me at Mike's for a granny square tutorial.
This sock monkey coffee cup wrap is too cute. Perfect for your coffee lovers, any time of year.

Hanging Laundry To Dry (with JuJu the donkey and Bruiser the dog)
The Flagyl antibiotics are wearing off.... and just in time for the sunshine to come back out... and i can be in it's bright heat again! I call um' hot hugs.
So, now i have to wash all the new underwear i bought because I burned all the ones i was wearing while having the Giardia parasites. Fuck that parasite, it stole my whole summer... i show no mercy. I play no games, and i take no chances. Out with the old farted panties, in with the new!
Time to wash down all my clothes and really scrub the cabin (to shine like the top of the chrysler building?) too... just in time cause my mom who has cleaning OCD arrived in town yesterday and due to come over this week.... HELP mom, you must use your special talent on my sinks and toilet! Make it safe again! ;) ha ha
Oh yeah, and here is my life in video.... exciting yes? Just me and the animals hanging laundry together.

The Color Of..
Via the Swiss Miss blog, I found this fantastic site: The Color Of... type in anything that takes your fancy and it generates a beautifully minimal artistic palette of "the color of" it.
I love how this challenges our preconceptions about color. I typed in some words expecting it to generate particular colors but the results were not always what I expected. Go over and check this site out, it is just FUN!
Here are a few of my Color Palettes:
