I am glad to report that Charo, (who I remember from childhood being the sexy Spanish bombshell on the late night talk shows) in partnership with PETA, has gotten the ball rolling in a substantial way to do away with the barbaric sport of bullfighting. As a child I was taken to a bull fight in Mexico. I don’t remember ever having a more miserable time at a public event because two things were driven home to me that day: the extent of human cruelty and the degree to which I felt out of place in the cheering crowd. I was maybe 11 years old, and I remember feeling nothing but anguish as the lances punctured the poor creature’s neck, shoulders, and back. Who among us would enjoy being pierced with a large lance on the neck and along the spine? This is only part of the torture the animals are subjected to.
