Trailer - An Encounter with Simone Weil

"What kind of a response does seeing human suffering demand of us?" Thus begins this stunning documentary about one of my favorite thinkers. Her collection of writings published under the title, Gravity and Grace, was hugely impacting when I read it  for the first time over 25 years ago. She was self-taught in Sanskrit, wouldn't convert to Catholicism in spite of deeply mystical Catholic leanings (when asked why she would not, she replied something to the effect of: the Church leaves out too many things that I love), and she literally died upholding what she understood to be the highest ethical imperative. She again and again asks us how we can remain at ease in the midst of the horrific affliction countless many undergo every moment of each day.
